This week, I chose a blog titled “Building Trust Between Police and the Communities They Serve”. I chose this article because this is very similar to an event I had planned for the non-profit organization I work for. A quote that I felt related to my event is ” Many officers who do not share this common heritage often struggle to comprehend the reasons behind this historic mistrust. As a result, they are often unable to bridge this gap and connect with some segments of their communities… ” because this is exactly the struggle the community of Meadow Park deals with. The event I planned was called “New Citizens Academy”. The local police had reached out to us in order for them to establish a better relationship with Rochester’s newcomers. This event had taught the residents their rights and what they should do if they ever encounter police. I believe that everyone who showed up had left with very useful knowledge and had fun while learning it.
