I had planned my second event to take place on January 26, 2019. It was called “Get to Know Your Neighborhood.” The event had taken place at Hope Church. I had begun planning this event on December 31, 2018. I had wanted to plan ahead of time because my last event felt rushed. During the first week of planning, we were mainly focused on looking for facilities to host the event that were close to the Meadow Park neighborhood. We also continued to engage with the community members and we looked for volunteers to help us out with the event. We really need these volunteers because without them it would have been incredibly difficult to host the event without them. Eventually, we had fund a couple of Winona State University students to come help us out and they thought what we were doing with the neighborhood was really cool. The following week, we worked on making flyers for the winter event and translating them into Somali and Spanish because a lot of the Meadow Park residents came from these backgrounds and we wanted to make sure that all of the residents could understand. We had also continued to make phone calls to community members about the survey we had been sending around. Lastly, during this week, we had started looking for food vendors to catering for the event. In the third week, we continued to work on translating the flyers for the event into the foreign languages. We had also double-checked to make sure we had the right information on the flyers, printed them out, and distributed them to the residents. We also went to the nearby businesses and let them know about the event. During the week of the event, we had members of the community come by and enjoy food and drinks while they engaged with each other and learn more about their neighbors. We also had activities for the little kids and played bingo for prizes. We also had volunteers from Winona State University come and help serve food. Overall, this event was very successful.
